Wine makers house in a Languedoc village for rent

Situated in a quiet street in the small village in the Herault, this 19th century stone house has been totally renovated with plenty of space for eight people to stay comfortably. The house is a five minute stroll from the boulangerie, the epicerie, the bar and a mini supermarket. The Languedoc is often called the “real” south of France with largely unspoilt countryside, traditional wine-making villages and a relaxed way of life. There is so much to discover – wine (Australian wine makers are to be found here introducing New World techniques), beaches, good restaurants, history reaching back to Roman times, the Canal du Midi, fun markets and so much more.

Built in the late 19th century, the house originally consisted of a barn and a residence, joined by a terrace. Each building has been totally renovated to a very high standard and receives light from three sides. There are four big double bedrooms, two in the barn (with shared large bathroom) and two in the house (each with ensuite). In the lower level of the barn is an enormous games room with separate entry. In the house there is a separate semi-formal living room with open fireplace, TV with English satellite channels, DVD player and discs. Facing the terrace is a lovely family kitchen with top model appliances and a long rustic dining table. A large, very pretty central terrace joins the house and the barn - perfect for breakfast or dinner. Wifi throughout the house. Each bedroom has reverse cycle air-conditioning and both the house and barn have electric heating. Baby’s cot and stair barriers available.

Autignac is a friendly village. You can practice your French at the epicerie with Marie, be entertained with a festival of concerts and a village dinner around Bastille Day. Herault is one of the world’s most beautiful regions. Vineyards stretch as far as the eye can see over undulating countryside and wine tourism is growing every year. The Mediterranean is about 20 minutes away and the Pyrenees are visible in the distance. For more information on what to do in the region, visit

Price is $1300 per week. A 25% deposit of full payment is required at the time of booking, with the balance due within 60 days of the start date. Also payable is a once-a-stay $75 cleaning fee and a refundable security deposit of $250.
