Eaux Bonnes

The small town of Eaux-Bonnes was mostly established in the 18th century when thermal baths/hot springs became popular. It is in the Pyrenees mountains on a plateau about half way up the Col d'Aubisque to Gourette, the major ski field  of the region. Outside of Paris, this area has been the most frequent stage of the Tour de France. The town has been visited over the years by many famous people including Napoleon III and Empress Eugine. During the spa season of 1872, "two princes, more than fifty marquis and canopies over fifteen dukes and duchesses, over seventy counts and countesses, more than sixty barons and baronesses" stayed there.  It has a notable old casino and many grand buildings from the time. The town is an excellent stop for lunch after a morning ski and the road trip is very picturesque.
