LouvreThe Louvre was a royal palace in the 16th century before becoming a museum in the 18th century during the French Revolution. The main entrance is covered by the glass pyramid completed in 1990. The museum is the largest in the world as well as being the most frequented with over 7 million visitors a year. The most popular exhibit by far is Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa. Another display worth seeing is Napoleon's apartments. The Louvre and its artworks are the subject of the Da Vinci Code book and film which was shot on site. Free admission on the first Sunday of every month and Bastille Day. Note: the museum is open every day of the year except for all Tuesdays, Xmas Day, New Years Day and 1 May.
