Ile De La Cite and Notre Dame

The Île de la Cité is one of two islands in the Seine in Paris (the other being the Île Saint-Louis). It is the centre of Paris and the location of Paris' medieval city. Its most famous landmark is the Notre Dame cathedral which is the among the largest and most well known churches in the world especially for its flying buttresses, its arched external supports, and gargoyles.

Another notable structure is the Hôtel-Dieu hospital. Paris' oldest bridge the Pont Neuf is one of 12 bridge structures that link Paris' left and right banks of the Seine to the island. You get a good view of the island from one of Paris' lock bridges the Pont des Arts and also from the Pont de l'Archeveche which links the 4e and 5e arrondissements via the Ile de la Cite.

Another notable structure on the island is the Conciergerie prison, where Marie Antoinette awaited execution in 1793.
