Rennes is the capital of Brittany, the far west region in the north of France. It has plenty of things to see in centre ville including Parliament house, an impressive cathedral, traditional timber houses, an opera house in a square with the town hall opposite the shapes of which fit perfectly into each other. There is a great street off the main square called rue Saint Michel, also known as Rue de la Soif/'thirst street', it has a lot of bars which are very popular with Rennes being a University town. As well as places to eat and drink in that street, the city abounds with galette and cider cafes sold from groovy shop fronts where you can sit and watch passers by on the cobble stoned pedestrian streets. The city has a small metro system making it easy to get around but you can do everything easily by foot too.
