Pears poached in red wine

Ingredients:

6 medium sized firm pears
- 2 cups red wine
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 2/3 cup sugar

cinnamon stick and nutmeg
Instructions:
- Mix the red wine, lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon stick and nutmeg in a large deep pan.
- Place on medium heat and bring to a very low boil, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar.

Peel pears, leave the stem on and cut a thin slice off the bottom so pears can later stand upright.
- Lie pears sideways in the simmering wine sauce and cook for 10-15 min each sdie until tender.
- Remove pears and reduce sauce by boiling it for about 5-10 minutes until thick and like syrup.

Place the pears to serve and spoon sauce on top.
