Hotel Ritz Paris

The Hôtel Ritz is a hotel located at 15 Place Vendôme, in the heart of Paris, France. The building was constructed in the early part of the 18th century as a private dwelling. it was acquired by César Ritz who converted to a luxury hotel which opened on 1 June, 1898. The hotel became a favourite of many of the world's wealthiest people, with luxurious suites named after some of its notable patrons from the past including Ernest Hemingway, for whom a bar in the hotel is named, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Rudolph Valentino, Marlena Dietrich, Charlie Chaplin, Greta Garbo and Coco Chanel who lived there for more than 30 years.

The Ritz family sold the hotel to Egyptian businessman Mohamed Al-Fayed who refurbished it and added the reknowned School of French Gastronomy. The hotel was where the owner's son, Dodi Al-Fayed and Diana, Princess of Wales, had visited before they crashed in the nearby Pont de l'Alma tunnel.

While the hotel and rooms are beautiful, to stay does not come cheap. A room costs around 750 euro a night but it is worth doing just once for the experience. You can also often just visit the club/pool. The hotel is not known for its friendly atmosphere but that isn't why people stay there.
