Our recent trip: more Vendee villages and Provence places

Villages in the Vendee are not well known or overrun by tourists. We have visited the region our Pouzauges house is in six times now but still each time we find more wonderful spots like:

·   Vouvant: a gorgeous medieval ville on a hill with a river running through and ponts crossing it, old castle ruins and lovely eglise as well as plenty of cafes and art shops and cute houses

·   Mallievre: a very small village with narrow streets, stone houses and ancient washing ponds

·   Talmont St Hilaire: a town not too far from the sea with a very impressive 11th century castle

·   Tranche sur Mer: a quiet, quaint seaside camping resort with lots of ete activities and cafes.

Everywhere you go in Provence you find another, not undiscovered, but still terrific place like:

·   Arles: impressive with its ancient Roman bull fighting arena and famous Van Gogh nuit cafe

·   Gordes: picture postcard ville perched on the edge of the Plateau de Vaucluse with the hauntingly quiet and beautiful Senanque abbey hidden behind with its lavender fields in front

·   Luberon villages: Peter Mayle writes about both Menerbes and Bonnieux which are beau hilltop villages, as is Lacoste where the Marquis de Sade once lived and now Pierre Cardin.

You can read more about the above and other villages in the Vendee and Vaucluse regions … or you join David on our property purchasing tour of Provence this 22-26 June when we will take people to places like these - hopefully they will leave with a piece of their village of choice.

Don't forget if you want to own your own place in a French village, come to one of our workshops - next one being held in Melbourne on 28 February then in Perth on 18 April.

We also this trip saw snow in both our regions – see our Pouzauges & Provence neige photos.
