Travel stats show French-Aussie links strengthening

Tourism data published by French and Australian statistics offices show growth in visitors between the two countries in recent years which is predicted to continue:

- Australians travelling to France are the largest number of non-European tourists, only outside of the US, and by head of population, we are the top nation visiting France

- French statistics show that over one million Australians now visit France each year and that number increases by between 5-10% on average each year

- Aussies spend just over a week on average per visit

- French visitor numbers to Australia have almost trebled over the decade to 2012 from 45,000 to 130,000 a year

- Official predictions in 2010 were that French annual arrivals to Australia would increase by an average of 5% each year and exceed 150,000 by 2020; however, if the 10+% pa increases in the last two years continue, French visitors would exceed 250,000 pa by that time.

Special year round is what UK expat Mike, whose sister lives in Brisbane, offers as part of stays in his Old Winepress. He purchased the winepress near Uzes 20 years ago and turned it from its state of disrepair at the time into the glorious four bedroom with pool villa it is today. Mike has truly integrated himself into the French way of life, gaining a French partner Tina who teaches French to English speakers in a very satisfying way; he even became president of the local fete which includes traditional bull running. Read more about Mike's story as well as the other fun activities around his place (eg. art classes) which he can help you with if you stay:  ...  Merci for sharing Mike!
