Features of our French property purchasing tour

David has recently returned from overseas and running our property purchasing tour of the west of France where he visited many local towns and attractions. The area is not as well known by Australians generally as other regions like Provence, Dordogne and Burgundy but it has very special features including:

- Nantes with its chateau and old moat right in the centre of this great town to walk through

- many Vendee villages including ours in Pouzauges with its two medieval churches and remains of a castle in which the wife of the tyrant that the character Bluebeard was based on, hid from him in the 1400's

- La Rochelle with its impressive  historic harbour and proximity to the beach resort island of Ile de Re

- in the Vienne, the tourist towns of Angles sur l'Anglin and La Roche Posay with its healing spa waters where Napoleon once built a hospital for his soldiers.

Email us your interest in one of our upcoming tours.

Part share reduced and new Pyrenees long term let

The part share property we advertised in our last newsletter has recently reduced its quarter share price by 10,000 euro to only 38,500 euro. The owners of the three other shares reside in Newcastle. The three level, three bedroom French styled cottage is in a hamlet in the Auvergne region, an hour from Rodez. The terrace outside the front door has beautiful views over the Lot River valley which one of the bedrooms also has.

Many Midi-Pyrenees properties have recently sold - more are coming though, so watch this page.

This heritage listed long term let house near the Pyrenees in the Basque country is set over three expansive floors and is full of charm and character. Perched above the Gave d'Oloron in the beautiful medieval village of Sauveterre de Bearn, all rooms and huge terraces have stunning river views. All five bedrooms have en-suites and most have balconies. The house has not as yet had the full “hotel-style” makeover and whilst very comfortable, the owners have discounted the rent substantially at 2000 euro/mth.

With the Aussie dollar falling against the euro, every cent counts if you are transferring funds for a holiday or property purchase. Recipe for French bread/pain notably baguettes

While they may not be exactly the same as the ones you get from boulangeries but you can try to make baguettes yourself at home. Not a quick recipe, but hopefully similar enough to that beautiful French pain:

Facts about France's bread/pain and baguettes

This month there were long queues in Paris and unhappy French people in them outside boulangeries as the rules requiring a certain number of bakers to remain open during the summer holidays were removed. Read more French bread/baguette facts.
