Pretty little town house in Brittany for sale

This pretty little town house would make an ideal bolt hole / pied a terre or first time buyers home. It would make a perfect base for exploring Finistere for the holiday maker, but equally, would suit someone wanting to live in town, in a house that requires little maintenance.

Kitchen / Dining Room 4.70m x 3.00m
The front door leads off the street into the bright dining area (2.60m x 3.00m), which is separated from the kitchen (3.90 x 2.20m) by a sink and worktop. The traditional shallow sink was reclaimed from the house prior to renovation. A range of fitted units and shelves provide plenty of storage space and there is a bottled gas cooker. The back door opens into the conservatory.

Conservatory 5.50m x 1.80m
The present occupant uses this space as a utility room and storage area, but it would make a lovely sun room and adjunct to the courtyard garden. Shower Room 2.20m x 0.90m A perfectly functional, if compact space with a WC, basin and shower with the shower cubicle providing a very useful clothes drying area when not in use. Electric heater.

Courtyard Garden Courtyard Garden 2.90m x 2.30m
This is a relatively small space transformed into a private, tranquil and restorative haven. This 'coin perdu' is the antidote to modern life - even in central Finistere!

First Floor Study / Sitting Room 4.60m x 4.10m
This room benefits from having two south facing windows which give it a light and airy feel. The present configuration is organised for study at one end and creativity and relaxation at the other. There is plenty of room for a sofa bed to accommodate guests.

Second Floor Bedroom 4.50m x 4.10m
This cosy room has a Velux window in the south side of the roof. It is big enough to consider the addition of ensuite facilities and there is potential to build storage and wardrobe space into the eaves. The roof is insulated. Cleverly organised to make the most of its space, this house has plenty of character reflecting its sympathetic restoration. It is south facing, so benefits from bright natural light.

The house is built of rendered stone with a slate roof. The present occupant has created a cheerful arrangement of window boxes and tubs in front of it, which add interest, colour and life to the façade. Behind the house is a delightful courtyard garden. This is accessed through the conservatory, off the well appointed kitchen / dining room. The shower room and W.C. is neatly tucked under the original staircase.

On the first floor, there is a comfortable room which is presently used as a sitting room and study. Above this on the second floor is the bedroom at the top of the house. There is scope to fit ensuite facilities into a corner of this room. Plenty of parking is available on the other side of the street from the house.

Ready to move in to and close to all amenities, this cosy house offers charm and ease. The house is situated less than five minutes walk to the centre of Châteauneuf-du-Faou, with its comprehensive range of shops, restaurants, banks, public offices, schools etc. The town is perched above the Nantes / Brest Canal, popular with walkers, cyclists and canoeists.

There is a lively music culture in the town. Jazz enthusiasts are well catered for with the annual three day Jazz Festival, plus regular sessions in the bar by the canal. Choral groups meet and perform and traditional Breton music is played at the famous ‘Fest Deiz’ and ‘Fest Noz’ (day or night dances / parties) occuring throughout the year in the town and the countryside nearby.

The Tourist Office is busy keeping up with events and also hosts art exhibitions year round. The château de Trevarez overlooks the town from the hill above the far banks of the canal.

Around Châteauneuf-du-Faou, the beautiful countryside is criss-crossed with walking and cycling tracks, offering endless opportunities to discover this unspoilt landscape. Wonderful beaches on the South and West coast are less than an hour away and it is just 75km to the North coast and the ferry port of Roscoff. The airport at Brest is an hour away, and it takes just forty minutes to drive to the beautiful Medieval city of Quimper, with its main railway line to Paris.
