Long Stay Rental - Heritage Listed Family Home in South West France

This heritage listed house is set over three expansive floors and is full of charm and character but it is the magnificent setting which will wow even the most travelled tourists!

Perched above the Gave d'Oloron in the beautiful medieval village of Sauveterre de Bearn, all rooms have stunning river views as does the huge terraces to the front but if guests wish a moment of privacy there is also a large terrace in the backyard. On the ground floor is a large common area with lounge & pool table, dining area, kitchen and bar. The 1st and 2nd floors offer spacious bedrooms, most with balconies and all with en-suites.

The house can easily accommodate a large family or small group with up to 5 bedrooms available. Whilst the accommodation is self-contained, a caretaker is available to assist with check-in/out and if guests strike any trouble whilst staying.

The village is quaint but has all the shops, services and restaurants to ensure a convenient lifestyle. The Béarn de Gaves is a wonderful playground for all practitioners of outdoor activities. Fishing, whitewater, hiking at the foot of the Pyrenees, cycling and equestrian trails, golf or balloon: the Béarn de Gaves lends itself to the pleasures of the great fresh air. And whether you have enjoyed a day of activities or just lounged around reading a book, additional relaxation can be found just 10 minutes away in the equally pretty thermal bath town of Salies.

When it comes to eating out, guests are spoilt for choice in all styles of Basque cuisine. Basque country gastronomy, whether served up in gourmet restaurants, rustic auberge or small family run inn is everywhere. Local specialties include traditional classics like foie gras and confit de canard as well as a host of other culinary dishes, often garnished with wild mushrooms that are grown locally.  Basque country cooking accompanied with the fine wines of the region provides for a memorable culinary experience.

There are a number of airports and rail stations in the region with both the cities of Pau and Bayonne airports less than an hour from the house. It also less than a 2 hour drive to Pamplona on the Spanish side of the Pyrenees.

Ideally, the owners are looking for a rental term of 1-month minimum and for up to 12-months. This long-stay arrangement would be ideal for guests considering to buy a property in the area and/or who have bought already and have renovations ongoing. The house has not as yet had the full “hotel-style” makeover and whilst very comfortable to live in the owners are offering a substantial rental discount to compensate.

Rental cost: 2,000 Euros per month
