Poitou-Charentes renovated house in the village of Gourge

This pre-Napoleonic house with its heritage listing has been traditionally restored and renovated. Opposite the house is one of the many weirs, and after a 5 minute walk, is the first of the walking trails across the river Thouet.

The house which sleeps up to 8 guests has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 3 toilets, large day room, dining room with a fire place, separate kitchen and one acre of land that touches the river. You can BBQ, fish, play boules, basketball, table tennis, darts, walk or cycle the many tracks that are available, or.... just totally relax in serene surroundings. If you want to visit for a couple of nights while you are travelling around Europe, or stay for a week or so, you can be accommodated. The closest airport and train station is POITIERS, which is a 45 mins drive.

Chambre 1 sleeps 2 with a large alcove for a cot or sitting area. Chambre 2 sleeps 3 with a double bed and single fold up bed. The living room offers a large day bed. The dining/reading room has a large sofa bed and a beautiful old fire place for winter.

 

  Saint-Hilaire, the Church in Gourgé is one of the oldest in France. The site was first occupied in Gallo-Roman times. The village was mentioned as early as the year 889. The Calvary Cross in the cemetry dates from the 12th Century. Horse drawn wagons go past all through the summer months.


   

Other nearby attractions include Chateau Jonc la Roche-Faton, rapeseed crops in fields, La Roche aux Enfants Chateau, La Forge a Fer, the city of Parthenay and village of St Loop.

Peter and Donna reside in Gourgé for nine months of the year, so they will ensure that your stay with them will be one to remember….In their absence, an English/French speaking neighbour will assist you.

Complimentary drinks upon arrival to help you settle in and relax. Meals can be organized for you, however there is a fully self-equipped kitchen. There are also a number of restaurants in the region. In Gourgé there is a general store and in Parthenay (a 15 min drive), there are many shopping outlets.  Markets are held throughout the week in surrounding villages.

Linen is inclusive of the price and a washing machine is available. For your added enjoyment there is either French or English television, DVD player, extensive DVD library, reading library in French and English, plus board games. Sporting equipment is available on-site and you can BBQ, and dine down by the river’s edge.

The house is a non-smoking environment.

Booking Information

Booking deposit $250 non refundable
Balance of payment    2 months before holiday date
Security deposit $200 – payable a week before arriving – refunded back into your account, after inspection of the property
Cleaning charge    only applicable if the property is not left in the condition it is found. Alternatively there will be an additional 60 euros charge for cleaning per week
Winter heating 60 euros per week
Fire place timber    first night complimentary, then available for purchase
 
Rental prices:

     July - Sep $820 per week

     Oct - March  $520 per week

     April - June  $620 per week

Overnight accommodation available upon request, and subject to availability. The price per week is for 6 people, each additional person is $60 per person – up to a maximum of 8.
