Gite de L’Enclose – Maison de Vigneron

The gite is located in the picturesque village of Azille, set in the heart of the famous Minervois wine region, located in the Aude just south of Languedoc-Rousillon. Be welcomed by Aussie hosts who can give you all the  information you need to make you holiday everything you’ve ever dreamed of.

The medieval village of Azille is located between Carcassonne, the famed walled city and Narbonne with its beach on the Mediterranean coast. In the village there is a traditional French restaurant set above the epicerie which serves fresh local produce. It also has a bar, a tabac, a post office, a pharmacy, a library with some English books and a syndicat initiative (tourist office).

The local cave allows you to indulge in a spot of wine tasting which may well provoke the purchase of some of the local Minervois wine, the subject of much  interest among French enthusiasts who greet these wines as an econmomical quality alternative to the wines of Bordeaux, Burgundy and Cote du Rhone.

Throughout the year Azille is the host to many events. There are brocantes (antiques sales) and vide greniers (car boot sales) mostly held on Sundays. Its two most famous events are held in the last weekend of April/first weekend of May and the August bank holiday weekend when thousand flock to the village to enjoy live bands, funfairs, horse shows and fantastic food and wine.

The Canal du Midi passes nearby and it’s an easy drive to the fascinating cities of Toulouse 95 ks,  Avignon 190 ks,  Nimes 150ks,  Barcelona  250ks  Marseille 220ks. On route to these centres you are spoilt for choice with hundreds of pretty villiages to visit. Narbonne Plage (beach) is just a half hour drive, on the Mediterranean coast. For those interested in engineering, the fantastic new Viaduc de Millau is just a few hours drive,  the world famous Airbus factory is at Toulouse,  the ancient Pont du Gard built by the Romans is at Nimes.

From Paris the TGV will get you to Narbonne in around four hours, pick up a car when you arrive at Narbonne for the short drive to Azille. There are also airports reasonably close by.
