600 yo stone village house near Carcassonne and Spain The region Of course all of France is a feast for the senses. It would be fair to say just about any location will be filled with interesting things to see and do. What is really unique about the region around Caunes minervois is its location and temperate weather. Its proximity to Spain, only 1 1/2 hrs; the rest of southern France, provence, the dorgoyne region; the ski fields, the Pyrenees. Italy is a 5 hr drive achievable for a two day trip. More locally, you have the innumerable wineries, you can walk from the village into the black mountains. Bike ride from village to village. Stroll along the stunning canal du midi which winds its way around the region for 240kms. Nearby carcassonne has its world famous castle. The village of Caunes minervois Population 1500. Amenities- Boulangerie (bakeries), prize winning butchery, cafes, ATM , small supermarket, post office, restaurants, pottery studios, markets, tourist office (in abbey). Nestled in the foothills of the montagne noir, Caunes is a lovely and friendly village. Originally a walled village, every street is filled with an interesting story. What is so appealing about Caunes is that your visit can be a very quiet and restful where you experience the truly French way of life. Or, it can be very social. The village has quite a lively social atmosphere in that there are a variety of events on throughout the year. During may through to October there many festivals. Music festivals are very popular here from jazz concerts in the square to classical music in the abbey. What is really special in Caunes are the people. Both the French and the British who have settled here are very welcoming. All you have to do is join in.
Hiking in the nearby black mountains, biking or strolling along the canal du midi, antique shopping , fabulous wine tasting tours, visits to the many vineyards in the region, castles, visiting the many villages in the region, marble quarry, beautiful 8th century benetictene abbey. Nearest airport is 20 minutes in Carcassonne.
Toulouse airport is 70 kms -a one hour drive. The house
It has a lounge dining room, kitchen, bathroom and three good sized bedrooms and can accommodate 6. It has a queen, double and two single bunk beds. There is a tv with French and English channels, a DVD, cd player, heating in all rooms. Washing machine and dryer. Iron,hairdryer. Linen and towels are provided. While there is no Internet however, you can access free Internet, wifi outside the abbey which is just a few minutes away. The house is a one minute walk from the Boulangerie, a wonderful restaurant at D'alibert
and chez Marlene who stocks food and just about anything you may need. High season May- October and easter $850 per week Generally rentals are Saturday to Saturday however the low season can be more flexible. Longer rentals are also available during the low season. There is a $75 cleaning fee. A $250 deposit is required on booking and a security deposit of $350 is required also. Final payment is 1 month before the visit For enquiries, email us |
