Saint Gilles Croix De Vie

A popular Atlantic coastal town in the Vendee, St Gilles is a three flower rated village next to the beach with an always colourful array of boats in its harbour. It has a large traditional working port which specialises in sardines. It is an attractive fishing village with numerous shops and restaurants. The quayside is an excellent area to stroll around to watch the boats sail or see the catch unloaded. There’s a lovely stretch of sandy beach with a collection of little coves.
 
The centre of town is busy all year round, with many festivals: a jazz festival, sailing festival even an onion festival. At the mouth of the river Vie, which is the river which separates St Gilles and Croix de Vie, visitors can see salt marshes and a thatched cottage which is a museum of a local traditional house from the turn of the last century.
