PouzaugesSituated in Vendee, Pouzauges sits on top of a hill overlooking the countryside. It is a reasonably sized village/town with a population of around 5,000. At the top of the hill is the ruins of a 12th century castle. The Saint Jacques church located just down from the castle ruins also dates back to the 12th century. Both of these are not far from a large town square where just outside the Mairie every Thursday and Saturday markets are held. There are a number of very quaint, narrow alley ways throughout Pouzauges as well as many lively cafes and restaurants. The town is located only an hour away from the coast and great seaside resorts of Ile de Re, La Rochelle and Les Sables d'Olonne. In the lower more modern part of the village many modern conveniences are located including a cinema, shopping centres and indoor swimming pool. There are also many forest walks around the village. The popular tourist destination of Le Puy du Fou. Our house is in this village - for more information on renting it click here. See more photos Go to places to see southwest |
