Situated in the heart of the Bordeaux wine region, the city of Bordeaux is an excellent spot to stay for day trips to some of the 5,000 chateaux wineries the region has to offer.

Being the sixth largest city in France, it has a lot to offer with excellent museums, a cosmopolitan atmosphere, plenty of shops/markets and beaches close by. Bordeaux has wide avenues, well-tended parks, gothic cathedrals and plenty of examples of classic 18th century architecture. One of the best walks is along the banks of the Garonne River. The Monument aux Girondins with its impressive fountain is worth seeing.
