Grignan Grignan is a village perched on a rocky hilltop in the Drome region of France just outside of Vaucluse in Provence. The chateau de Grignan which dominates the surrounding countryside was transformed from a citadel in the middle ages to a renaissance castle in the 16th century. It offers a spectacular view of Mont Ventoux to the east and is open to the public. The village has picturesque streets and stone paths which wind around the castle with houses and archways dating dating back to the 12th to the 14th centuries. In May and June, Grignan is in full bloom with over 200 species of roses planted troughout the village. When the lavender is in bloom the view to Grignan from its entrance is spectacular with rows of purple leading up to it. Return to places to see southeast |
