Noumea The capital of New Caledonia in French Polonesia, Noumea is only 2 hours flying time from the east coast of Australia. New Caledonia is a territory of France where the official language spoken and culture is definately French. You can savour all of the traditional French cuisine as if you were in France (bagettes, croissants etc) but in a tropical atmosphere. The melanesian influence also adds to the experience. Noumea itself is a relatively busy city set on a harbour with nearby beaches on the bays around the peninsula (most popular being Baie des Citrons and Anse Vata) as well as on islands (most popular being Isle of Pines).
