Our 2010 property purchasing tour to southwest France

The tour started with a guided walk through the shopping streets of the region's capital Nantes, then to ancient village highlights and an Atlantic Coast resort town before settling for the night in one of our area's chateau after a meal King Louis style. Days 2 and 3 took the group to many a local village property with French estate agents. We also had a presentation by Gareth the builder who kindly shouted champers and hors d'oeuvres. Then after our village markets, it was off inland to see more good value properties but not before a riverbank picnic. The thermal spa resort town was unique as were the locals including Pierre the Postman and guitarists over dinner. Everyone got on famously with many friendships gained as well as some good knowledge of the region and purchasing property.

Movie 'The Tree' an Australian/French collaboration

'The Tree' is a French-Australian co-produced film set in outback Australia. It stars critically acclaimed actress Charlotte Gainsbourg and received a 7 minute standing ovation at this year's Cannes Film Festival. After its release in France last month, L'Arbre opens here on 30 September.

The lives of Dawn and her four children are thrown off balance after the sudden death of her husband Peter. Yet solace arrives when her daughter Simone believes her father is living on inside the fig tree outside their house. But the family's new-found comfort is tested, as Dawn meets a new man and the tree's roots begin infiltrating the house.

The Tree is a powerful portrayal of loss and grief. It is a lyrical and poignant account of spiritual survival.
