October 2015 newsletter

Bonjour

In this newsletter, we feature monuments that are loved by the French (and those outside)
including some we visit on our property purchasing tour; have new places for sale and rent;
give you details about upcoming French festivals here and autumn festivals in France; and
have autumn recipes for French (Normandy) apple tart, tarte tartin and new red wine pears.

Also, a special welcome to our recent members joining us following The Australian article
written about us and Tim's places in Carcassonne and Vertueil sur Charente. For updates
on things French in between our bi-monthly newsletters, you can follow us on facebook.

Our most recent facebook post was about next year's Tour de France - this week, we will
be running a competition for free movie passes to the upcoming film 'The Program' about
Lance Armstrong. It is being released by StudioCanal 26 Nov; to win, you need to like us!

A la prochaine
Sharon et David

PS: See below for details about our tour to France, booking now for 13 to 17 June 2016

France's favourite monuments are on our 2016 Tour

As voted by the French, their favourite monument chosen this year was the Arras Belfry. Nominations from other regions in the 2015 competition run by France 2's patrimoine TV program included:

- Notre-Dame cathedral in Le Puy-en-Velay (last year its chapel of St Michel on a volcanic plug was one)
- ramparts at St Malo from Brittany
- citadelle at Calvi in Corsica
- Hotel Invalides in Paris for the Ile de France region
- canal in Narbonne from Languedoc-Roussillon
- Millau viaduct in the Midi-Pyrenees region
- Notre Dame basilica in Marseille for Provence.

Of note are this year's and last year's nominations from our region of the Pays de la Loire. Both came from Nantes and are monuments we visit on our tour: the Passage Pommeraye and Castle of the Dukes. Also nominated last year were the towers from the La Rochelle harbour we went to on our 2015 tour.

Some features of our 13 to 17 June 2016 tour are:
- walking tour around Nantes streets and monuments
- exploring regional villages and hidden local treasures
- viewing places purchased in past and those for sale
- enjoying local markets and gourmet cuisine and wine
- seeing a range of houses + learning what to look for
- all accommodation including a historic castle stay
- five days being escorted by David and estate agents.

New and reduced places for sale and rent in France

We have two recently renovated 'places in the sun' in the Languedoc in the sought after village of Villeneuve Minervois being offered for sale by the same owner. One is a four bedroom large apartment in a stone townhouse with a roof terrace for sale for 169,800 euro. The other is a four level, two bedroom stone townhouse with a church clock tower view out of a roof window for sale for sale for only 65,000 euro.

If already fully renovated properties like those above are not your thing, perhaps doing up an old village farmhouse in the Champagne region is your dream? If it is, for only 12,000 euro (less than half the original asking price) you can turn this place into the charming villa it could be www.frenchdesire.com.au/french-property/places/champagne/

If owning your own place or renovating is not you, then perhaps buying a part share in a property in Provence would suit. For only 30,000 euro you could join others in owning part of Le Portail Neuf, a
comfortable and authentic village house in the lively provencal wine village of Beaumes de Venise in the beautiful Vaucluse region. This property is one that we also advertise for rent: www.frenchdesire.com.au/french-property-rental/venise. For this part-share enquiries, email us.

If you are not sure what type of French property you should buy, our tour can help you decide, giving you all the information and practical experiences you need before you take the plunge into buying yourself, plus you will have a fun time. Next tour 13-17 Jun 2016.

Maybe you want not to buy but a place to stay for a trip to the Dordogne where we have two new rentals:

- tastefully renovated two bedroom (one extra large Louis XVI style and a fabulous loft with 2 single beds) townhouse in the village of Eymet for $1095 a week
