Our Facebook features Tour de France photo a day

Thanks to our facebook followers, we now have 2000+ page likes, merci! Recent posts have included some interesting stories about things happening in France:

- Fete de la Musique heralding the start of summer

- annual outdoor Diner en Blanc in the heart of Paris

- removal of the loved (and hated) Pont des Arts locks

- a new Versailles statue of a Queen's very private part

- berets et baguettes bike ride through streets of Paris.

Le Tour de France
has started and as soon as the race hits the French border (from Holland), we will be posting a photo a day from French places it passes. In a post today, an Aussie rider has won the first stage!

This year the route will go through: La Somme battlefields as well as Arras and Amiens, Normandy landing beaches/harbour villages, Brittany including Rennes, Valence, Rodez, Pau and the Pyrenees.

So if you aren't a follower already, like us even for the next three weeks to see some of France's best places.

Bastille Day events being held around our country

Sydney has Bastille Day at the Rocks and a Blue Blanc Rouge French world festival/village/party on prior. Brisbane's festival is on the weekend before, then Melbourne's festival is on the weekend after. For other areas, check with your local Alliance Francaise.


French recipes for Bastille Day + Le Tour de France

What better way to celebrate things French this month while watching the Tour or on Bastille Day, than to make the very traditional and easy croque monsieur and/or crepes, either/both with a complementary kir.


Facts about France's national holiday Bastille Day

Bastille Day commemorates the seizing of the Bastille prison by the people on 14 July 1789 which was the start of the French Revolution. Being its national holiday, France celebrates with parties and parades. Read more about the day as well as facts about it.
