French property market update at December 2011

Despite France's economic problems, the French property market during 2011 showed strong growth, unmatched since prior to the global financial crisis (GFC). Last calendar year, property prices rose 7.3% bringing the average price of houses back to pre-GFC levels.

This is very positive compared to Australia's reported drop in housing prices across the country last year. Despite this, the median house price in Australia, at over $500,000, remains almost double the average price of places in regional France. Australian housing was also rated as 'severely unaffordable' by the recent international housing affordability survey and was the most unaffordable of any country outside China.

In addition, the Aussie dollar continues to hit records against the euro (>82cents early Feb ) and French interest rates are still at historic lows (eg. < 4% fixed 20 years).

We will provide more French property statistics as well as practical assistance to help those interested buy French property at our workshop on 17 March in Brisbane - offer of free e-guide when booking extended to 14 Feb.

For those who want to learn by experience, join us on our property purchasing tour to the west of France in Sept.

International award winning Aussie champagne book

'Champagne is my life...It has filled my world with beauty' says champagne consultant Bernadette O'Shea who drinks only champagne and water! She has produced a gorgeous glossy hardcover book with many champagne stories and information on champagnes and their houses. It has exquisite images of chandeliers throughout the book as a visual expression of the masses of fine bubbles leaping out of a crystal glass. Bernadette is an Australian who is a world authority on champagne and has received numerous awards including a French knighthood. Her book has been voted the best in the world (French wine) from the prestigious Gourmond Food and Wine book awards. It will also be published in France in French next year! Lovers of champagne and things French will very much appreciate this book. Read more about it or see our facebook page for the recent ABC 7.30 report story on Bernadette.

Famous quotes about France and notably Paris

So many famous people have an affinity with France and/or Paris as well as the French. I like Hemingway's quote best 'whoever does not visit Paris regularly will never really be elegant' especially after seeing Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris but Marge Simpson's is memorable also.
