Tour de France 2011 stages/towns announced

The 21 stages and hosting towns of the 98th Tour de France (2 to 24 July 2011) have been announced:
www.letour.fr/2011/TDF/COURSE/us/le_parcours.html

Every year over 200 towns apply to host a stage of the Tour de France with only 10% being successful. Hosting towns for the 2011 Tour include:

- after its beginning along the Passage du Gois (waterway tidal road from Ile Noirmoutier), Mont des Allouette Les Herbiers, Les Essarts and Olonne sur Mer all part of the Vendee 3 day start of the Tour: get in early to be close, stay in our Vendee house

-  Dinan, a beautiful and historic town in Brittany (being only 1-2 hours north of the Vendee you can easily follow the tour here) with its cobblestoned old city complete with half-timbered houses dating from the 13/14th century and castle/ramparts as well as the picturesque old port down by the river, not to mention shops, restaurants/cafes and bars

- St Flour a medieval village that sits on the region's highest volcanic outcrop surrounded by the mountainous landscape of the Massif Central. One of our members has a place to rent in St Flour: a stone cottage set in the buttress of a 15th century church in the heart of the old town with its narrow, cobbled streets and many places/market squares. In non Tour de France time, it rents from $880 a week:

New French film stars Kristen Scott-Thomas
Sarah’s Key tells the story of the remote connection between the lives of a young girl and middle aged woman in France. It is based on Tatiana de Rosnay’s bestselling novel. While researching the Jewish Roundup in Paris during 1942, American journalist (Kristin Scott-Thomas) discovers a terrible secret from the past linked to her life. The film is being released on 23 December - view the move trailer.

Ooh la la another French romp for Ann + two
After the success of their tours in the south of France and the resulting book Ooh La La! A French Romp, Ann, Geoffrey and Amanda decide they'd like to run tours in Greece and Italy, so they embark on a research trip where they are forced to stay in a room with only one bed on a Greek Island. Back in St Maximin for their French tour, there's the usual scene of food, wine, partying and touring around Provence with plenty of colourful local characters and all the behind the scenes calamities. After that, more French indulgence in the wine district of Burgundy, then onto Vienne for a different Michelin star dining experience. The book ends back in their Provence village with colourful local festivals of summer including a running of the bulls. I highly recommend this book for its French flavour, readability and witty humour.
