Sharon’s trip continued: Fun in France with friends
While the main reason for my trip late Jan/early Feb was to go to the Davis Cup being held in our Vendee region, I did manage to do a few other things like:
- head into Paris for a night with a friend, staying at the Hotel Regina across from the Louvre to see a Moliere play at the Comedie Francaise in Salle Richelieu, also doing some shopping up the Champs and at the Pont de l'Alma markets plus visit Angelina's cafe, ride the giant ferris wheel and stroll along the Seine;
- spent time in our village of Pouzauges just chilling out and seeing some French friends (including two more young French fellows planning to work in Australia) as well as driving around the area in our cute little Fiat hire care visiting various spots in our region including the beach at Les Sables d'Olonne and La Roche sur Yon, a town established by Napoleon;
- a quick trip on the last day to Rennes to see a French Uni student friend of ours who had stayed with us during his campervan trip to Australia; Corentin more than made up for his stay with us showing me the fantastic sites of his hometown plus sharing a brenton galette and cider. Brissie has a lot to make up for compared to the Brittany capital, very impressive.
Cannot wait for my next trip in 10 days time: follow me on facebook or be updated in our next newsletter in May for stories on the Easter egg hunt at Chateau Vaux le Vicomte and Normandy landing beaches/Honfleur.
See the trip photos in our recent facebook albums:

Property update for 2014 plus new places for sale
Recent reports in British papers are predicting an increase in the number of UK buyers in France this year with the relative strength of the pound. Mortgage lenders, estate agents and currency exchange experts are all experiencing a reported significant rise in interest from British buyers. Record low interest rates and the slight fall (-1.8%) in prices in 2013 has also added momentum. A leading international property portal also had France up 2 spots on their most popular countries to buy in list from 5 to 3 (after the US and Spain). With more buyers in the market this may mean that prices may begin to rise again. Plantine members (those who have one of our workbooks) can see these articles in their platine section of our website.
We will soon be finalising group numbers for our next property purchasing tour from 22-26 September this year to our region in the west of France:
If you are interested, let us know as soon as possible. If you can't make it, don't forget our online guides.
One of our former tour participants, Tara, came back to our region in France two years on with her husband Paul and have just purchased a gorgeous stone cottage complete with traditional green shutters. They were assisted in this process by property searcher Jacqueline who works in our Vendee department and now joins us on our tour. This is what Tara had to say:
Yes, after 3 and a half months we have our own little French dream! We are absolutely overjoyed and the journey has been a real team effort. It obviously started with you and David and the fantastic tour that you have, followed by 2 years of saving and lots of homework... Having Jacqueline's local support has been incredible. Thank you so much for helping us along the way!!!
More on Tara's house purchase journey to come...

New places to rent in country and seaside villages
One of our members, Ron, purchased one of the places for sale on our website and now has it for rent on our site. Set in the tranquil 12th century village of Dompierre les Eglises in the heart of the Limousin region, this comfortable self-contained cottage is an ideal base for exploring central and west France. A fully modernised 2-storey old stone cottage has two light and spacious double bedrooms with lovely views over the surrounding countryside and the single bedroom has bunk beds and a cute petite fenêtre. Rent from $425/wk. Read Ron's property purchasing story.
La Ciotat one of our favourite Med beach/harbour villages along the coast eastwards towards the Riviera from Marseille. It has all the charms of a Provence town with its picturesque markets on Sundays and Tuesdays and in the summer, you can enjoy the sand beaches and the "calanques" (fjord in miniature). The village has a quaint harbour with restaurants and great shops. A French member is now renting his 2 bed upper level villa apartment with water and village views. It is located at the edge of the centre of La Ciotat, five minutes walk from the old harbour and sea. Rent: $750 a week. http://www.frenchdesire.com.au/rental/la-ciotat/
New movie - third in the Spanish Apartment trilogy
This movie is the next in the sequence after the second movie Russian Dolls. It is a light hearted comedy starring the popular Romain Duris (who was first discovered to play in his role in the Spanish Apartment) and the well-known Audrey Tautou. While the original movie had the same characters in their 20's, this third film has them now in their 40's dealing with children, divorce, living abroad and, as always, relationships. Romain and Audrey are excellent and the film is entertaining. You can easily follow without having seen the other two movies but you will want to afterwards.
The Chinese Puzzle (Tete Chinois) opens on 17 April. We were lucky enough to have seen this earlier in the year soon after it was released in France courtesy of Alliance Francaise, well worth seeing...view trailer
