House in Haute Provence for sale

This house named Maison  Charvin, is centuries-old, restored and with modern comforts, in the heart of an historic, walled medieval village. Entrevaux is listed as one of 'the most beautiful villages in France'. Nice and the Côte d'Azur are one hour to the south and the snowfields of Valberg-Beuil are just to the north. There is a regular rail service on the famous 'Le Train des Pignes' rail line.

At ground level, above the cellars, there is a kitchen, a wash room and a living-dining room. On the 2nd level there is a large bedroom, with a double bed, an adjoining sitting room and a shower-room with WC.

On the 3rd level there is another large bedroom, an adjoining sitting room and, again, a shower room with WC. Both shower-rooms are directly accessible from the stairwell and so can be used privately by persons from any floor.

On the 4th level, is a single bedroom (with hot and cold water), and a double bedroom which opens onto a covered terrace. Steep and narrow stone stairs lead up to a galetas, soliaïré or séchoir. This is another covered terrace with one wall open to the southern sun, used in times past to dry farm produce for storage during winter. There are many fantastic views.

The village has a good range of facilities to cater for tourists including four restaurants, café bars, a pizzeria, créperie and many shops. Puget-Théniers (7km east) has an even wider range of facilities and the market town of Annot is 15km to the west. Both of these towns are also on the rail line. Village features include the citadel, fortifications, cathedral, olive-press, grain-mill - in summer there are guided village tours as well as a number of festivals. Features of the old medieval town are everywhere - stepped streets and vaulted passageways, street fountains and village squares. You enter the village over a stone bridge and through the Porte Royale, one of three gates into the village. The three drawbridges are still in place. A fortified way zig-zags up to the dramatic citadelle (floodlit through summer) on the top of the hill, from where there are plunging views of the valley and the village below.

The house is currently set up as a holiday house rental with a website and English manager who lives 3km south of the village.

Price:  195,000 euro including furniture
