The Spanish border is 60 km away. The closest large towns are Aire-sur-L'Adour, (18 km) which has twice weekly markets and Pau (40km). Viella is a farming community famous for its vines and mixed agriculture. The house is a L shape, with one arm of the L being the original house, while the other arm was the barn which was converted in the sixties.
