Joanne Harris was born in her grandparents' candy shop in France and is the great-granddaughter of a woman known locally as a witch and a healer. As such her first novel is relatively autobiographical being is set in a chocolatiers' shop owned by a mysteriously bewitching woman in a beautiful village in the south of France on the Tarn River. The book was made into a movie starring Johnny Depp, Juliette Binoche and Judi Dench. |
